My Leon

Chief Medical Officer

Chief Medical Officer

In 1996, I left my family practice to join the team here at Leon Medical Centers. Though I was already a practicing physician at the time, I feel like I grew up at Leon.

As Leon’s chief medical officer and senior vice president for medical affairs, I’m responsible for the quality of care we offer our patients. But I see my role as so much more than that. It’s about serving our community and making sure we live up to the intentions and expectations of our founder, Mr. Benjamin Leon, and his family.

It Starts with Family

Mr. Leon was determined to build a system here in U.S. that mirrored the clinics and neighborhood centers he grew up with in Cuba. His philosophy — what I call our “secret sauce” — starts with family. Mr. Leon hoped to create a place where anyone would feel comfortable sending their parents and family members. When he asked me to be part of it, I was honored.

I come from a family of doctors. Both of my grandparents, my father, my sister and my brother are physicians. My father, who passed away in 2018 at age 94, chose to get his care at Leon. It was amazing to hear him say he wanted to be a Leon patient. He believed in this system and in what we’re doing. I do, too, and I couldn’t be prouder.

Concierge Care

Our seven centers and hundreds of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals provide concierge-level medicine to 40,000 Medicare recipients in Miami-Dade County. Ask Leon patients and they’ll tell you they’re treated like VIPs.

If you’re a patient, this is the place where you’re in control of your healthcare. You have a partner in your primary care physician and access to experts across every medical specialty. We’ve spared no expense to have state-of-the-art technology and to recruit some of the best doctors from around the country to lead our medical services.

Yet Leon is more than a place for expert medical care. It’s truly a place of wellness.

Wellness begins by removing barriers to quality care. That’s why we provide our own transportation and encourage visitors and staff to build relationships within our Healthy Living Centers. It’s also the reason we’re available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through our customer service center.

More Choices, More Services in the Future

At Leon, we’re always thinking about ways to improve care for people in our region. Our goal is to become even more accessible to our patients by offering more telehealth choices and more in-home services. Also, by investing more in preventive services and education, we can help keep our community healthy.

As a physician, I can say it’s a dream to work at a place like Leon Medical Centers. And it’s my privilege to care for so many across Miami-Dade County. Thank you for choosing Leon for yourself or your loved one.
